Clara Vale

Its been almost a year since we last visited Clara Vale LNR, so we popped along there this morning.
A Water Rail was not long in putting in an appearance. Just look at the length of those toes! No wonder it appears to walk on water.

and it was quickly followed by a Kingfisher. It looked like a neon sign.

A couple of Redwing dropped down from collecting holly berries to take a drink

There were also  Coal, Great and Blue Tit, Wren, Goldfinch, Greenfinch.

Nice place.

I've been once to Clara Vale, it's quite a long drive for me, but I might be tempted to go again if there are sights like this to see. Lovely pictures altogether.

Emma its quite a popular place for the photographers since everything is quite close.
The hide is only about eight feet square and today there were five huge lenses clicking away - and us two.

The Kingfisher would look like a neon sign after the Water Rail. Both cracking sightings, and as you say within close proximity. Clara Vale has a cosy feel about it. There's the added bonus of an apple in the other hide usually.

Very nice shots, especially of the Water Rail. I must try and get across there as I still need Water rail for my year list and I have given up on the one at Holywell, me I think, being the only birder in North Tyneside not to have seen it.:-) Cheers Brian.
